Cat4KIT - A cross-institutional data catalog for the FAIRification of environmental research data
The aim of the Cat4KIT project is to create a cross-institutional catalog and research data management system that improves the principles of findability, accessibility, interoperability and reusability (FAIR) of environmental research data. The framework comprises four different modules, each with specific tasks.
(1) Facilitating the availability of data on storage systems via clearly defined and standardized interfaces.
(2) The process of harvesting and creating (meta-)data in uniform and standardized representations.
(3) Facilitating the public accessibility of (meta-)data through the use of clearly defined and standardized catalog services and interfaces to ensure consistency and uniformity.
(4) Enabling efficient search, filtering and navigation through data originating from decentralized research data infrastructures.
Each module is created and executed in an inter-institutional collaboration between researchers, software developers and potential end users. This methodology ensures the versatility of our framework so that it can be applied to many types of research data, including multi-dimensional climate model outputs and high-frequency in-situ measurements.
